Richard Spear

Richard E. Spear is a scholar of Italian Baroque art. His major books are Caravaggio and his Followers , Domenichino (Yale, 1982), and The "Divine" Guido. Religion, Sex, Money and Art in the World of Guido Reni (Yale, 1997). His current research focuses on economic art history and on the European paintings in the museum in Bombay, India . Previously, Spear taught at Oberlin College, where he also directed the Allen Art Museum (1972-83). He served as Editor-in-Chief of The Art Bulletin and has received many awards, including a Fulbright and grants from the American Council of Learned Societies, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts, the National Humanities Center, and the Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundations.
