The Olympic Games: Past and Present, All Ages
Go for the gold! This summer the Olympic Games will take place in London. Visitors to this session in the Collaboratory have a unique opportunity to see the sites of the Olympics in Google Earth on a massive scale. They also can see, in situ, a large painting (12 x 42 feet) depicting the classical games, the only work of its kind, painted by James Barry in 1780. Come see the site of Olympia itself, its 18th-century depiction by Barry, and its most recent reincarnation on the banks of the Thames.
(12:30-2)
You Be the Curator!, All Ages
Following a short discussion by John Shipman, Director of the Art Gallery, of how he curates exhibitions of art that are fun and exciting, the curious are invited to try their hand at designing a virtual exhibition of the Art Gallery's permanent collection. Amaze your friends and family with your hidden curatorial talent!
(2:30-4)
