Middle Atlantic Symposium
The Middle Atlantic Symposium in the History of Art is hosted by the University of Maryland's
Department of Art History and Archaeology and by the Center for Advanced Study in the
Visual Arts, National Gallery of Art. Nine graduate art-history programs participate in the
symposium, which provides an opportunity for advanced graduate students to present their
research. The 2012 sessions will be held on Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31, at
both the National Gallery of Art and the University of Maryland.
As part of the symposium,Colin B. Bailey, Deputy Director and Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator,
The Frick Collection, will present the George Levitine Lecture on Friday, March 30, 6-7:30 pm
in room 2203 of the Art/Sociology Building. The title of his talk is "Renoir Full On:
Painting Large as an Impressionist." A Tea will be held beforehand in The Atrium, 5-6 pm.
