Professor Suzuki earned her M.A. in Asian Studies at Sophia University ( Tokyo, Japan ) and her Ph.D. in art history from UCLA. She joined the faculty in Fall, 2006. Suzuki is a historian of medieval Japanese art, with a particular interest in Japanese religiosity and its manifestation in visual and material culture. Her research focuses on Buddhist icons, their production, dissemination, and ritual functions as well as issues on iconography. Suzuki is currently working on a manuscript tentatively entitled, The Making of an Icon: Medicine Buddhas and Devotional Practices in Early Medieval Japan.
