Students not enrolled in the graduate program may request special permission to be admitted to colloquia (600-level courses). In order to enroll in a graduate course, these "Advanced Special Students" must have the permission of the instructor. Students who have been denied admission to the graduate program are not permitted to enroll in graduate courses. Advanced Special Students may not enroll in more than two graduate courses.
After obtaining permission from the instructor, students in this category must apply to the Graduate School for admission to Advanced Special Student Status. All applicants for this status must hold a B.A. from a regionally accredited institution. In addition, Advanced Special Students must satisfy one of the following criteria:
Have an overall 3.0 average. Applications must submit official transcripts covering all credits used in satisfying the B.A. requirements.
Hold an M.A. or Ph.D. degree from a regionally accredited institution. Applicants must submit an official transcript showing the award of the degree.
Have at least four years of successful post-baccalaureate work or professional experience. Applicants must submit an official transcript showing the award of the B.A. degree.
Achieve a score that places the applicant in the upper 50th percentile of appropriate national standardized aptitude examinations such as the GRE. Where different percentiles are possible, the Graduate School will determine which score is acceptable.
