Students in the Department, undergraduates as well as graduate students, bring a diverse array of viewpoints to their studies, developed from their individual life experiences. The students are actively engaged in their studies and enthusiastic about art history and archaeology. The Department has active student organizations, undergraduate and graduate, run by the students, themselves.
The Art History Association (AHA) is an active student-run association that has sponsored modestly priced trips to museums in New York and Philadelphia, workshops, contests, and other events. An annual undergraduate symposium has been implemented to enhance the art history undergraduate academic experience. This symposium contributes substantially to the academic and professional education of our majors.
The Graduate Art History Association (GAHA) was established to further the academic, professional, and social goals of graduate students in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Maryland. GAHA organizes and hosts events throughout the year, including roundtable discussions, an annual undergraduate symposium, and numerous social events. GAHA's sponsorship of a visiting scholar, who presents a lecture and and conducts a colloquium, has become a popular annual event for the Department. The events are supported by periodic used book sales and bake sales.
